Katsucon 2011 Reaction/Recap

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 21, 2011, 10:01 AM
Katsucon was SO fun! Oh my goodness! Everything went really well, with a few weird moments here and there but when does that not happen at a con?

I'll go through some memorable moments a day at a time.

Friday:
Metal Gear Solid cosplay group. I dressed as Naomi Hunter, Lindsey (:iconcapnlynz:) dressed as Meryl, and George dressed as Johnny. Nobody really recognized me as Naomi, but that's o.k., lol.
We didn't arrive at the Gaylord Resort until around 6, so we didn't have an entire day to explore the place and go to some panels. Still, I think it was a good day nonetheless.
Met Vic Mignogna and got autographs and a photo. Lindsey was working on her collection of signatures from the cast of Ouran High School Host Club. She got her dvd signed. :]
After that we wandered around through the Dealers Room/Artist Alley and saw some really cool things.
Met up with my photographer friend, Dawen Huang, later on for a night photoshoot and got some great pictures! Lindsey and George got some adorable pictures (as well as some more bad ass ones) as Meryl and Johnny. I made sure to point out that they actually were engaged, so it made everything extra cute. I'm sure Lindsey will giggle when she reads this. :p

Saturday:
I dressed as my steampunk character, Lydia Bailey; Lindsey dressed as Haruhi from O.H.S.H.C. (the pink dress outfit); and George dressed as Dan from Street Fighter.
While waiting for a panel we were interviewed on camera for the Katsucon website. I don't think the guy filming us knew what steampunk is, so when he asked me what I was from I just had to say it was a made up character. ::shrugs::
Went to the Ouran High School Host Club Q & A. Heard some very strange questions. I was a bit surprised by what people say and ask.
While in the Dealers Room we visited the Cosplay in America booth and looked through the book. Then the photographer asked to take my picture in his photo booth, and I was happy to do so. I didn't expect him to ask considering you normally have to pay $20 to have your picture taken in the booth. I was so flattered! I gave him my signature on a model release form and my email address, so if I'm in the next book he could let me know. :]
:iconwhynotawitch: also found me in the Dealers Room! Met her at Otakon 2009. Hadn't seen her in a while, and it was so nice to see her again! :D
That afternoon while Lindsey and George went to a panel I met up with Dawen in the Atrium again for another photoshoot. He. Took. Amazing. Photos. Oh my God I can't wait to see them! He, along with some other people who were around, took a few inside, and then we went outside and got some great ones with wind blowing my skirts and hair. So so so so fun.
That evening in the Dealers Room Tom, a friend I met at Otakon 2010, found me. It was awesome seeing him again! He invited me to The Geek Comedy Tour, which he was a part of. That was an interesting experience. xD

Sunday:
I dressed as Daria Morgendorffer and Lindsey dressed as Jane Lane.
We got some more autographs and pictures from Todd Haberkorn and George Ayres for Lindsey. Our line experience was rather...annoying, to be honest. It wasn't the waiting in line part, but the people around us.
Lindsey and I were also in another photoshoot with Dawen. Got some great Daria and Jane pictures. :]
Sat in on the charity auction for a little bit. Didn't get anything though, lol.
Not as many other people took our photos that day, but the ones who did were so appreciative of our cosplays. It was really nice seeing people react in such a way. One of the members from the Clockwork Dolls especially liked our outfits as well while we walked through the Dealers Room one more time, and Caitlin Glass and Todd Haberkorn commented on them when we walked past them while they were on their way to the autograph session. It was really cool.

So all in all, Katuscon was a definite win. The location was spectacular, the panels were interesting and accessible, and my friends and I had lots of fun. Looking forward to next year!

I'll be posting photos from my camera sometime tomorrow, and the ones Dawen took will be posted sometime in the near future as he has to go through them all first. Stay tuned!

Next con should be Otakon this summer. Let me know if you'll be there!
